​PTO Board Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Keena Kister, PTO President at approximately 6:00.  She gave opening remarks, welcomed everybody to the meeting, and thanked them for coming. 
**October 2017 meeting minutes were approved.     
 
Budget Update: 
**current balance is $8,762.51
**still waiting on spirit night (week) check from Carrabbas; just received spirit night check from Panda Express ($229.96) which is included in the balance above
**current Mistletoe Market profits - $402.97
**PTO sent a check for half of the Accelerated Reading (AR) Program that is new to the school and currently being implemented.  This amount is $3,710.80.  The rest of the balance for the AR Program will be payed for with funds from the recent book fair.  
**PTO has received a surprise grant from Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart in the amount of $500.  This grant was requested last year by a parent, and it is very much appreciated!  Money will most likely go towards technology expenses.  More details to follow.
 
Spirit Nights:
**Our most recent spirit night was at Panda Express on November 10th with a profit of $229.96. 
**Every Wednesday Mojobas will offer half price admission to Brighten student between the hours of 12:00-4:00 with $2 food combos.
**The next spirit night will be at the Chick-fil-a in Arbor Place Mall on Thursday, December 7th ALL DAY!

**With any of the Spirit Nights throughout the year, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO MENTION YOU ARE FROM BRIGHTEN!
 
Community Partners:
*Box Tops - Parents were encouraged to send them in to the school.  We currently have made $867.60 for the current school year. 
*Shoparoo App - This is a great time to download this app with the holiday season upon us.
           
Mistletoe Market:
            -This annual craft fair event will be held on Saturday, December 2nd from 
              10:00-4:00 in the Brighten gym. 
            -Currently, there are 37 vendors.
            -There will also be a raffle to win gift baskets donated by vendors and
              photos with Santa will be available free of charge (picture must be taken
              with your iphone/camera - no photographer will be taking pictures).
            -Volunteer Opportunities for Mistletoe Market
                        *all-day “runner” to assist vendors during the market and to help
                         anywhere help is needed
                        *help with vendor set-up - Friday evening from 6:00-7:30 and/or
                          Saturday morning from 8:00-9:30
                        *Anyone who is interested please get in touch with Keena Kister or
                         message/email Brighten PTO. 
 
New Business:
*The PTO website is constantly being updated with volunteer opportunities available.
*PTO Officer positions will be available for next school year (2018-2019).  If you are interested in becoming an officer, please contact Keena Kister or message/email Brighten PTO. 
*Extra PTO checks are located in the school safe. 
 
****Room Parent Meeting followed PTO meeting to answer questions
      about the upcoming teacher luncheon (2nd and 5th grade parents).
