​PTO Board Meeting Minutes
 
Date:  April 24, 2017
Time:  6:00 PM
Location:  Brighten Academy

The meeting was called to order by Keena Kister, PTO President at approximately 6:00.  She gave opening remarks, welcomed everybody to the meeting, and thanked them for coming. 
 
March meeting minutes were approved.     
 
Special Guests - Governing Board Candidates for the 2017-18 School Year
*The five Governing Board Candidates were introduced to those in attendance,
  and each candidate gave a brief speech.
*Those in attendance were allowed to vote for 4 of the 5 candidates.  The PTO
  members not in attendance at this meeting will be sent a link via email to cast
  their vote.  See the dates below in “Upcoming Events.”
 
Budget Update:  Current balance is $21,943.65 (not including movie night) 
*Recent Spirit Nights - Firehouse Subs in April - amount still pending
*Fall Spirit Shirt Profits -   -$1,131.39 (currently in the red)
            -Parents were reminded that if they purchase a shirt, that will equal
              1 volunteer hour.
 
 Upcoming Events:
*April 24-28 - PTO members only will have a chance to vote for Governing Board Members via Survey Monkey
*May 9 - Spirit Night at Fabiano’s from 5:00-9:00
*May 15 - PTO Meeting at 6:00 with PTO Board Member vote for the upcoming
  school year.  2 Positions are currently still needing to be filled. 
*May 4 - Sue Beck’s Retirement Send Off at BACS 8:30-2:30
*May 17 - Dana Pace’s Retirement Send Off at BACS at Arbor Station Media

Community Partners
*Box Tops - We currently have raised approximately $1,000.00.  Parents were encouraged to keep sending them in to the school.
*Shoparoo App - Parents were encouraged to continue using this phone app to help raise money for the school. 
*Coke Rewards and Publix Partners have been discontinued. 
 
 
New Business
*There are extra spirit shirts available for purchase.  Both the long-sleeved t-shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase.  However, no sizes larger than X-large are left.
*Planning for “Facility Upgrades” (what parents voted to fund earlier in the year)is still in the works.  Currently awaiting proposals from contractors via the
administration for a front entrance school sign and a fence around the playground. 
*Updates coming to the PTO Bi-Laws.  Nothing officially has been changed, the
wording will just be updated.   
 
 
Reminders
*Parents were reminded to log hours on “Track it Forward” website.  Parents
  were told that report cards will be held if hours aren’t completed.
